Different companies estimate work differently
A contractor may estimate a separate subcontractor allowance, sell work from a labour allowance to a subcontractor, or use a mixture of internal and outside labour. ActualCost keeps the actual subcontractor cost visible as its own category.
A flexible budget-left rule
When a job contains an estimated subcontractor amount, subcontractor costs reduce that allowance. When there is no subcontractor estimate, the outside cost reduces the labour allowance instead. This supports mixed delivery without counting the same cost twice.
Subcontractor budget left = estimated subcontractor − actual subcontractor cost, when a subcontractor estimate exists
What each entry records
- Date and subcontractor or company name
- Project and job
- Cost and an optional invoice or reference
- Notes useful for later review
Entries can be edited or deleted, and projects can be reviewed by entry count and total subcontractor cost.
